The UW Medicine Division of Dermatology has an outstanding opportunity for individuals looking for 1-2 dedicated years of paid research experience as either a Research Study Coordinator or Clinical Research Fellow in the Nghiem Lab, overseen by Dr. Paul Nghiem, Head of the Division of Dermatology. 

The Clinical Fellow/Research Coordinator position is a fulltime, one-year position (renewable for up to three years). Please note, this is not a remote position, candidates will work in-person in the Nghiem Lab at the UW Medicine Research Facility in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood. 

Job Description:

As a Research Study Coordinator or Clinical Research Fellow in the Nghiem Lab, you will gain first-hand knowledge of the management of Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC), a rare and aggressive skin cancer (details at our website, www.merkelcell.org), as well as other skin malignancies and dermatological conditions. You will care for individuals with MCC who travel to Seattle to consult with our team. You will help run a weekly skin oncology clinic at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, co-organize a weekly multidisciplinary MCC tumor board discussion, and learn a broad spectrum of cancer therapies under the supervision of Dr. Nghiem. You will be closely involved in translational and clinical research using our patient database and blood/tissue repository. There are ongoing NIH-funded & industry-sponsored clinical trials that you will discuss with patients, including planning novel trials in development by our group.

Qualifications:

Clinical Research Fellow: This fellowship is designed to help medical trainees develop their career interests as well as prepare applications for their next phase of training. It is intended as a 1-2 year research experience during, before, or after residency in preparation for oncology fellowships or dermatology residency programs. Candidates must have an MD. Research Study Coordinator: The Research Study Coordinator is intended for undergraduate medical students who are currently pursuing a medical degree (MD). Two years of college level course work in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience as a Research Study Assistant OR equivalent education/experience.
